When Professor Papoulis brought up this article in class today, I knew it was something I would be interested in! Subconsciously, I say "lol" all the time! Kind of embarrassing, but it just kind of became part of my daily language. When we really take apart the language, we aren't "laughing out loud," and I usually say "lol" when something is kind of funny, yet not funny enough to actually let out a laugh. With this abbreviated talk, we as a society have seemed to lose the concept of a good laugh. While this doesn't seem very important, what if our entire earth stopped laughing and just said "lol" to everything? We would lose the concept of what was actually funny. Hard to imagine what this would be like, but I know I would not like it!
I especially liked in this article when Quenqua mentioned the abbreviation of NASCAR. I never even thought about what it was an acronym for, as i'm sure is the case with much of our nation.
Just posted a video clip on my blog about the wall street protest. Im really interested in your thoughts. Do you think the journalist went to far? Is his language powerful or offensive? What about the actual content of the video? Comment on it!
Like Soph, I anticipated reading this article when Professor mentioned it in class. I find it just a sign of the times that text message language has made it's way into our society. Multiple times a day I hear the terms OMG or LOL. Moreso from girls than boys, but hey, sometimes I am guilty. Anyways, G2g, ttyl. LOL. :) that's for you vic
